Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a protagonist that is actually a turd attempting to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a single jump button. In 150 challenges, battle boss fights and visit a store to buy outfits for your poop character.

Time your jumps precisely, as a wrong move forces starting over. Jump off floating orbs to propel the poop upward, traverse crumbling platforms, and touch triggers to reveal new areas. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult stages where the action intensifies.

Visually, the demo boasts neon level designs and an amazing music score. The retro visual style featuring moving basic polygons could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although hard to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Naturally, such content is present extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on computers this November.
