Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak From Tom Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their best victory streak from the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the New England's advantage at the summit of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' initial series
But the New England answered in the second period as the rookie scored two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the victory
